This has changed my life and I can't thank you enough for sharing your story (as well as everyone in the comments!). I get PD flare ups on my actual lips and it causes swelling and this awful tingling burning sensation as if they are extremely chapped. Thankfully it only happens a few times a year typically, but for the past 9 years I have been operating under the assumption that it was Herpes (despite the fact that I had no visible blisters and Abreva never seemed to help). When I got my PD diagnosis last summer after a bad flare up around the nostrils I finally put two and two together that these random lip flare ups might be related. I am still trying to find out what triggers them -- this last time I attribute to either a stomach virus I had a few days prior or something in the Crest 3D White Strips I was using. But for the first time I dropped the Zovirax and tried Clotrimazole 1% that I had in the house from a previous yeast infection. The swelling went down overnight and when I woke up, my lips felt like they normally would by day 7, when it was actually only day 2. They were just slightly dry and itchy with some flaking but any pain and swelling was completely gone and now a few days later they are nearly fully recovered and I'm just moisturizing them with Carmex. I'm normally filled with dread when I feel that sensation because I know there is nothing I can do to stop it and that it is just going to be a miserable, uncomfortable week. This has completely changed the game and brings me so much relief knowing I can cut my recovery time down to merely a day or so. I finally know what to do and how to treat this without dermatologist visits, unecessary antibiotics, etc. etc. Thank you thank thank you!!!!! I am so eternally grateful. Its around both sides of my nose, sides of my mouth, and covering my chin. Its really confusing, as sometimes it is small and goes away on its own. I am convinced that mine is caused by the magical chemicals released in the body with *STRESS*. I've read a lot of things about cutting out eggs, wheat, dairy, coffee, sugar, alcohol, cheese, etc.. But I've consumed and eaten those things all my life and never had this. I have tried clindamycin phosphate lotion 1% (which didn't do anything and is used for acne not PD), Elidel (It changes my skin but not in the way that actually helps PD and it isnt safe to use long term...) Doxy. antibiotic pills (Got sick after 3 days couldn't continue and wont do long term antibiotics ever again) and now my most recent proscription, Metronidazole .75 Cream (dried out my face a ton and after a shower the bumps are worse looking than ever!). I am burnt out, and have turned to Lotrimin. It is my first day using it and I am very hopeful! I will comment again an update in 2-3 days. If anyone sees this (its been 7 years since this post was created wow) send some good vibes and healing energy my way please *.* Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1106059323758993396.post-27933146181459374452020-07-27T05:58:40.529-07:002020-07-27T05:58:40.529-07:00Clotrimazole, the Lotrimin Ring worm ointment star...Clotrimazole, the Lotrimin Ring worm ointment started working for me in minutes. Thank you, I wasnt sure how to thank you and all the posters for their comments and suggestions, other than passing it along to others. It was supportive and made me realize I am not alone, the itchiness isn't in my head and I am not just a chronic face picker. I hate taking this antibiotic ( tummy ache), but I hate the red rash way more. This last outbreak of PD .... has been stubborn and relentless. I’m doubling up on the antibiotic, staying out of the sun and heat, using non fluoride tooth paste ... getting ready to eliminate meat and dairy, taking a daily pro biotic.... starting back up on ACV in my water each day..... and for weeks this itchy burn is fighting me... last night I was defeated as all get out 😢, after reading your post , I found some diaper rash cream and put it on before sleeping. Alleluia 🙏 when I woke up... my rash, redness and itch was 80% better. I bought Lotrimin today and used it this afternoon. Then on a recent search there was a recommendation to use a cream called Vitella Ictamo. I found its on Ebay - ordered it from Romania and began using right away. Day 2 the Perioral Dermatitis was completely gone! I stopped using it just to see how long the effect would last, after 3 days I noticed a papule or to starting to appear so the next time I used the cream continuously for seven days. I have stopped using it now and the Perioral Dermatitis has not returned since! It's amazing. I wanted to share with you all who are probably as frustrated as I have been with this. It really does work - pls try it guys.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05079468411462813695noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1106059323758993396.post-69889171604072300752018-09-16T22:17:41.579-07:002018-09-16T22:17:41.579-07:00Thanks for sharing it

I assumed it was prickly heat, and tried a plethora of things to help (aloe Vera, evening primrose oil, vitamin e oil, Manuka honey) and while these seemed to help, the rash kept coming back. After reading this blog I tried clotrimazole cream and I can’t believe how much it’s reduced irritation! Does anyone know if it’s damaging to the skin to use it TOO much though? Should I stick to twice a day? Also, does anyone know if there’s other foods I should avoid eating that might trigger it? So far I’m assuming it’s bread and cheese (my fav foods, typical) so I’m avoiding them and just eating vegetables. I’m vegetarian so, do you guys think it would be ok to eat quornm meat (it’s made from fungus)? Love you all! I couldn't enjoy the night because I felt like it was so obvious. I started going through all the forums on the internet late that night and was about to buy several different products to try when I came across this one. I thought I had tried this when I first started breaking out but I'm not sure if I had or if I was trying too many different options and it never had the chance to work. I got up after reading this found an 88 cent tube I had bought years ago and thought I'd just see. This morning I would say it's 40 to 50 percent better after one application. I'm cautiously excited that this is finally the answer and I can finally go out in public again without feeling so self conscious. I suffered with POD for months. I read this blog and all the comments and tried the antifungal cream and it helped, but didn't cure it. I finally broke down and took the antibiotics and cured it. The reason I'm posting is that I saw a dermatologist yesterday re a different skin rash (allergies) and got what I think is useful information. First of all, I finally found a brand of PHENOMENAL products, VANICREAM. I bought it from the dermatologist but it's also available from Amazon. Thankfully, they aren't expensive. I bought the cleanser, cream and lotion, large sizes and the total was under $40. They're for sensitive skin and they're wonderful. Check them out. The trick with the cream and lotion is to apply them to wet skin. I'm delighted to find them because I haven't been satisfied with anything else I've tried. I think I'll stick with these for life. Another thing. We discussed POD. I told him the antibiotics worked but that it doesn't make any sense since POD is not caused by a bacteria. He said that the hypothesis is this: We all have lots of natural flora on our skin. When they get out of balance POD occurs, ie, one or more become too prominent and our skin reacts. The antibiotic works because it just kills them all and then when they repopulate they usually do so in balance again. I asked him why a topical antibiotic wouldn't do the same thing. He said that he'd love to see a controlled study conducted over 3 months with an antibiotic cream and that he thinks it would work, but most people will give up after a month or two and, after all, that's a long time to still deal with the issue, so they prescribe the pills because they're a lot faster. So, if he's right, what's going to work depends on which of the bacteria/fungi has become dominant and caused the problem. And it could be a combination. So if I get a recurrance I think I'll start with the antifungal, avoid stearates and flouride, then take the antibiotics if I don't get results.Trishaleehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03028072500547756182noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1106059323758993396.post-53035221943853582552018-05-19T14:54:58.515-07:002018-05-19T14:54:58.515-07:00Curious if your rash returned.
